1. Name and Seat
The full title of the organisation is «Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology – Switzerland». This may be abbreviated to «CAA-CH». CAA-CH is constituted as the Swiss national chapter of the International Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology organisation, abbreviated «CAA».
The seat of CAA-CH is the seat of residence of the acting Chair of CAA-CH.
2. Aims
The aims of CAA-CH are:
a) to bring together archaeologists, mathematicians, computer scientists and members of other disciplines to complement and extend the interests of the international CAA;
b) to encourage communication between these disciplines;
c) to stimulate discussion and future progress in the application of information technology to archaeological research and practice;
d) to promote or organise teaching and training activities;
e) to disseminate the results presented at the meetings and annual conferences of the CAA-CH.
3. Membership
i) Membership of CAA-CH does not include a free membership of the international CAA. Members who wish to attend the annual conference of the international CAA must become members of that organisation in accordance with the international CAA constitution.
ii) Members are entitled to the following:
a) keeping their name and address on the mailing list held by the convenors of CAA-CH,
b) receiving a copy of all electronic mailings circulated to the membership of CAA-CH,
c) voting at the General Assembly of CAA-CH either by proxy or in person,
d) be eligible candidates for the ESC.
iii) No member of CAA-CH shall purport to act or make representation on behalf of the organisation without the prior agreement of the Executive Steering Committee.
iv) The membership expires
– for natural persons, by resignation, exclusion or death
– in the case of legal persons, by resignation, exclusion or liquidation
v) The Executive Steering Committee can exclude a member at any time without giving a reason. The member can appeal against the exclusion at the General Assembly. The General Assembly decides on the exclusion by a simple majority.
4. Executive Steering Committee (ESC)
i) CAA-CH shall be administered by an Executive Steering Committee (ESC) consisting of at least three members – the Chair of CAA-CH, Secretary of CAA-CH and Treasurer of CAA-CH.
ii) The ESC will be elected annually The ESC will be elected annually at the General Assembly (GA), usually in connection with the annual conference.
iii) One of the ESC members of CAA-CH will be designated, by the ESC, as the representative of the national chapter to CAA international.
iv) ESC members may resign by sending notice to the remaining ESC members or to all members of CAA-CH through the current mailing list.
v) The ESC members ensure, to the best of their ability, that an annual national conference does take place.
The ESC members shall meet at least once a year, normally during the annual conference of CAA-CH.
5. General Assembly
i) Notice of a General Assembly (GA), together with the formal proposals for discussion and, in particular, any changes to the Constitution, must be posted at the CAA-CH website at least 21 days before the date of the GA and emailed to all members with email addresses held on the membership role at that date.
ii) Normally the GA shall be held at the annual conference. Attendance at the GA shall be open to all CAA-CH members, whether or not they are attending the conference.
iii) The election of members of the ESC shall take place at the GA. All nominations must be submitted to the ESC prior to the election and the willingness of the candidate to stand must be demonstrated.
iv) If it is not possible to hold the GA during the annual conference, then the ESC shall call a GA as quickly as is compatible with the required period of notice to members.
v) If needed, the ESC may call an extraordinary General Assembly in between the regular annual conferences.
6. Changes to the constitution
Any changes to this constitution must be approved by a 75% majority of votes cast at a GA. Such changes shall not take effect until they have been announced at the GA.
